A project-based learning experience

Every place tells
an interconnected story.

This year, students will investigate how people, environments, and ideas shape the world around us—then share what they discover at our classroom geography fair.

Learning with a purpose

What is project-based learning?

Project-based learning (PBL) asks students to investigate a meaningful question, make informed choices, create something for an authentic audience, and reflect on what they learn. Instead of only studying geography, students use it.

01

Question

Begin with a real geographic question worth exploring.

02

Investigate

Gather evidence from maps, data, sources, and people.

03

Create

Turn learning into a clear, original public product.

04

Share & reflect

Teach others, receive feedback, and consider next steps.

Why it matters

Students build knowledge—and confidence in using it.

As they make decisions, revise ideas, and explain evidence to others, students practice the habits of thoughtful geographers: curiosity, perspective-taking, research, communication, and responsible action.

Voice & choice give students ownership of their learning.

Real audiences make research and revision meaningful.

Interdisciplinary work connects reading, writing, math, art, and civics.

This year's inquiry

Theme

Connected Places:
Geography, Culture & Change

Students will explore a place or geographic issue and show how physical features, people, culture, resources, movement, and change are linked.

Driving question

How does geography shape the way people live—and how do people shape the places they call home?

Start here

Find the project that fits your curiosity.

Students may choose a project format that helps them communicate a geographic insight clearly and creatively. Every option includes research, evidence, and reflection.

Investigate climate, population, migration, natural resources, or another pattern in data.
